Kintsugi – Contemporary Sculptures by Xavier Carrère
This ancient technique, discovered in 15th-century Japan, consists of repairing an object by highlighting its fault lines with real gold powder, instead of trying to hide them.
The word Kintsugi comes from the Japanese words Kin (gold) and Tsugi (joint), and therefore literally means: gold joining. The art of Kintsugi is called Kintsukuroi, meaning "gold mending".
It is a long and extremely precise repair process, unfolding in numerous stages over several weeks, or even several months. It is even said that it sometimes takes a year to create the best Kintsugi…
